Traffic through Minsk Airport accelerates growth
Passenger traffic through Minsk Airport in the capital of Belarus accelerated growth in September 2016. Compared to the same month last year the growth rate quadrupled. The airport handled 354,800 passengers. The growth was not steady throughout the summer months: the traffic grew 24.9% in June, same as in September. But in July and August the growth did not exceed 11%.
From the beginning of the year the passenger traffic growth rate averaged 20.3%. Almost 2.609 million passengers traveled through Minsk during this period. In the first half of the year the traffic grew 25.8%.
At the end of the first nine months the Belarusian carriers are accountable for the largest share – up to 71.7% – of passengers served by Minsk. In the first half of the year, this share was 69%.
The dynamic traffic growth through Belarusian capital is explained partially by suspended air connection between Russia and Ukraine. This proved favorable for Minsk Airport, which is following the strategy of development as a transfer hub. It base airline Belavia is streamlining its services to cater for transit traffic.
