Traffic through Dushanbe airport increases 13% in 2017

Passenger traffic through Tajikistan’s Dushanbe International Airport grew 12.7% year-on-year in 2017, reaching 1.3 million passengers. The total nuber of flights served was up 1.6% to 5,549 aircraft movements, the airport reports.

The airport processed 2,473 tons of freight and mail, up 6.6% on the previous year. Construction of a cargo terminal began in spring 2017, and is expected to be completed this August.

The airport’s main objectives for this year are to prepare for an ICAO audit and keep up with the national program aimed at improving flight safety and passenger experience.

Tajikistan’s primary airport has partnerships with 13 carriers, including Tajik Air and Somon Air. The latter intends to launch direct flights from the airport to the USA once it has taken delivery of a Boeing 787-8 in Q1 2018.

The Russian airlines operating flights to the Tajik capital city are UTair Aviation, S7 Airlines, and Ural Airlines. The airport’s route network currently includes 10 Russian destinations.
