Russia’s passenger traffic saw 3.4% drop in February
International traffic stagnated, while numbers fell by almost 5%

Russian airlines collectively carried 6.9 million passengers in February, representing a 3.4% decrease year-on-year, according to data from local aviation authority Rosaviatsia.
February’s domestic traffic fell 4.7% to 5.1 million passengers. This is the second month in a row when domestic numbers are sliding. January saw decrease of 1.4%.
The number of passengers on international routes amounted to 1.8 million. This segment showed a tiny growth of 0.2%, which is significantly lower than January’s figures, when international traffic grew by 5.7%.
“The slight decrease in passenger traffic in the first two months of 2025 was result of fewer days this February, as well as the absence of an additional holiday in this month compared to last year,” commented Alexey Buevich, deputy head of Rosaviatsia.
According to Rosaviatsia, Aeroflot, Pobeda, S7 Airlines, Rossiya and Ural Airlines remained the country’s largest airlines. In January-February they accounted for 71% of the country’s total traffic.
Of these airlines, only Aeroflot Group published statistics for February. Combined traffic of Aeroflot airline, Rossiaya and LCC Pobeda amounted to 3.6 million passengers, a 2.3% declined year-on-year. The group attributed this by the effect of “calendarization” as well.
Nevertheless, Aeroflot Group accounted for 52% of all passengers served by Russian airlines.
