Russian airlines’ collective traffic in the first six months of 2025 amounted to nearly 50 million passengers, the country’s transportation minister reported at the presidential meeting on July 2.
“In the first half-year almost 50 million passengers were transported, including nearly 2 million using state subsidies” minister said. The figure is at least 1.15 million less than for the same period of 2024 – when it stood at 51.15 million travelers, including 38.69 million in domestic and 12.46 million in international segments.
For the first five months of 2025 the traffic was 40.38 million passengers, 81,500 passengers or 0.2 per cent less year-on-year. According to Russia’s Air Transport Operator Association, the only segment that showed some growth (up 10.09 per cent) was international routes outside the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) perimeter. Traffic on flights within CIS was down 6.95 per cent, while domestic traffic declined 1.3 per cent.
As follows from the data presented by the minister, in June Russian airlines served less than 10 million passengers – which is significantly below June 2024 level of 10.72 million passengers (according to Russia’s aviation authority Rosaviatsiya).
