Operational results for Aeroflot Group in March and the first quarter (Q1) of 2026 reveal positive momentum. According to management accounts, key performance indicators—most notably passenger traffic and load factors—exceeded levels recorded during the same period last year.
Q1 2026 Performance Overview
During the first three months of 2026, the Group’s constituent airlines—Aeroflot, Rossiya, and LCC Pobeda—carried a combined 11.88 million passengers, marking a 2.2% increase year-over-year. The primary catalyst for this growth was the international segment, which handled 3.23 million passengers, an 8.9% rise. Domestic traffic remained resilient, holding steady at 8.65 million passengers.
Group-wide revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) climbed 6.9% to 35.03 billion, outpacing a 3.3% increase in available seat kilometers (ASK), which reached 38.40 billion. This capacity management pushed the average passenger load factor (PLF) to 91.2%, a significant 3.1 percentage point improvement over the previous year.
The flagship carrier, Aeroflot, delivered a robust individual performance, with passenger volumes rising 3.2% to 6.55 million. The airline’s international expansion was a highlight, surging 15.9% year-over-year. Aeroflot’s RPK grew by 10.5% to 23.62 billion, while its PLF gained 4.4 percentage points to reach 91.3%.
March 2026 Operational Resilience
March results further underscored the Group’s ability to pivot in response to geopolitical volatility. The Group carried 4.1 million passengers during the month, maintaining parity with March 2025 levels. Despite the suspension of services to high-capacity hubs such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi due to regional instability, the international segment still posted a 5.8% gain.
Aeroflot IR Director Andrey Napolnov attributed this growth to the successful redeployment of aircraft to Southeast Asia, Turkey, and Egypt. This tactical shift resulted in a record-breaking international load factor of 94.6%. While domestic traffic saw a marginal 1.9% decline to 3.0 million passengers, total RPK for the month increased by 5.0% against a 2.2% rise in ASK. Aeroflot alone carried 2.3 million passengers (up 0.8%), with RPK increasing by 8.8% and its load factor rising 3.8 percentage points to 92.4%.
Fleet Optimization and Cabin Reconfiguration
Complementing its network strategy, Aeroflot is advancing a fleet-wide program to maximize seat density and lower unit costs. The carrier is currently reconfiguring the interiors of 29 narrowbody aircraft, specifically Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320ceo models. The modernization focuses on optimizing cabin layouts by reducing business class seating in favor of economy class capacity.
As part of this initiative, 22 Boeing 737-800s are being upgraded from 158 to 162 seats, while seven Airbus A320ceos will see capacity increase from 140 to 158 seats. This densification project will add a total of 214 seats to the narrowbody fleet, enabling the airline to accommodate up to 230,000 additional passengers per year without increasing the number of airframes.
