Magnetic MRO brings broad service support to Finnish airline
Magnetic MRO, the Chinese-owned, Estonia-based provider of aircraft technical care, and Finnair, the flag carrier of Finland, have signed a mutual contract covering a wide range of services including complete paint work, full interior refurbishment and base maintenance on all 12 of the airline’s ATR 72 fleet which are operated for Finnair by its partner company Norra.
The first aircraft was delivered from Magnetic’s Tallinn base to the customer on May 8th. Kaspars Podins, Magnetic MRO’s operations manager reveals that, under the ATR transformation project, the aircraft’s outmoded exterior and interior will be upgraded to a modern and simple design that achieves balance throughout the cabin, whilst meeting Finnair’s own high standards.
The agreement includes painting all 12 of the ATR aircraft into the Finnair livery. In addition to the new livery, each aircraft will receive a full interior refurbishment. For Magnetic MRO’s interiors team, this involves producing the largest number of new details for an aircraft that the company has ever manufactured for a single interiors project. It is also a first for the company to provide base maintenance services for the ATR aircraft type.
“Both companies have more than 15 years of excellent partnership on ATR and A320 maintenance,” explains Juha Ojala, Finnair’s head of engineering. “Magnetic MRO is perfectly located close to our main Helsinki base and their recent process development, especially on aircraft painting, convinced us of their ability to manage the whole fleet-wide modification programme within agreed time schedules at high quality and competitive costs,” Ojala adds.
The refurbishment project is due to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
