Lufthansa Technik signs new contracts with Russian airlines
The German MRO provider is continuing and expanding its technical support for airlines Red Wings and Smartavia
Russian carrier Red Wings Airlines has contracted Lufthansa Technik to provide extensive support for its growing Airbus narrow-body fleet. Under the terms of a contract with Smartavia, another Russian airline, the German MRO provider is also to provide technical services for its fleet of Boeing 737s.
Under the six-year contract with the Moscow-based Red Wings Airlines, Lufthansa Technik (LHT) is to support the IAE V2500 and CFM56-5B engines of the carrier’s Airbus fleet, by providing a full range of engine services including engine condition monitoring (ECM). For the duration of the contract, a shop visit is planned for each of the 24 engines currently involved. Lufthansa Technik will also maintain the landing gears of Red Wings’ fleet of eight Airbus A320s and four A321s, on a fixed-price basis over the next six years.
LHT already supports the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC)-owned airline, which is the ninth largest in the country, with numerous other services, among them components support.
With the decade-long relationship between Smartavia and Lufthansa Technik continuing, at the same time, the privately-owned regional airline Smartavia, which is the brand name of Nordavia Airlines, has signed a long-term agreement covering technical services for the carrier’s Boeing 737 fleet. Under the terms of the contract, Lufthansa Technik will provide spare parts for the Boeing 737 NG aircraft of the Arkhangelsk-based carrier’s fleet.
The new contract provides Smartavia with guaranteed access to LHT’s components and spare parts pool. Ultimately, this comprehensive support will allow the regional carrier to increase its fleet renewal rate, to expand its route network and enhance the levels of service provided to passengers.
