Kazakhstan’s LCC FlyArystan targets to double traffic this year
Air Astana’s LCC division proceeds on its expansion path with plans to add more aircraft and launch new routes

Despite a global decline in air travel and a grounding that lasted two months, Kazakhstan’s only low-cost carrier FlyArystan managed to fly 1.5 million passengers last year, and claims ambitious targets for 2021.
The LCC division of Kazakhstan’s national carrier Air Astana is set to proceed on its expansion course with plans to add three aircraft to its fleet and launch at least 14 new routes. The airline is counting on its low fares to attract enough passengers to double its 2020 traffic numbers. The target for 2021 is set to exceed 3 million passengers, the airline announced today.
Since its operational launch in May 2019 FlyArystan has served 2.2 million passengers. Its average seat load factor through its entire operations has been 87 per cent, and it recorded dispatch reliability of over 90 per cent. After expansion last year the airlines route network now has 28 routes between 14 destinations within Kazakhstan. More than half of its one-way tickets have been sold at a fare of under 10,000 tenge (US$23).
In its second year of operations the LCC doubled its fleet of Airbus A320 to seven units. It plans to bring it to ten aircraft within the first half of this year. In addition to its existing network from three bases at Almaty, Nur-Sultan and Atyrau, FlyArystan is investing into developing regional connections by planning to launch several new routes from Chimkent and Aktau.
“That was a difficult year for many, which changed our reality and our everyday routines. But along with that 2020 brought many positive changes. We launched a mobile app that will make air travel easier for our customers, we flew to Turkestan for the first time, and through expanding our fleet we made even more seats available for our lowest fares,” FlyArystan’s CCO Zhanar Zhailauova commented.
