Azerbaijan Airlines to fly to six cities in Saudi Arabia

Azerbaijan Airlines to fly to six cities in Saudi Arabia AZAL received permission to operate A320 flights to the Saudi cities of Dammam and Riyadh during the summer (AZAL)

After reaching an agreement to operate flights to the Saudi Arabian cities of Ed Dammam and Riyadh from June 15, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) is now hoping to obtain permission to serve four more airports in the kingdom.

According to the airline, negotiations are currently underway with partners from Saudi Arabia to carry out regular flights to the airport at Medina, Jeddah Airport (from May 18), Gassim Airport (from June 15) and Hail Airport (from July 1), thus increasing to six the number of AZAL destinations in Saudi Arabia.

The opening of these new routes will attract additional tourists from the Middle East, while also making holy sites more accessible to Azerbaijani visitors. The agreement will also deepen business relations between the two oil-rich countries, the airline believes.

Separately, Azerbaijan Airlines is to add another new destination to its route map, with the launch of (July 5 to September 15) seasonal direct flights to Tivat, the popular tourism resort in Montenegro. All flights will be operated using Airbus A320s.

Azal is the flag carrier of Azerbaijan with a route network of more than 40 destinations in 25 countries. In 2017, it carried more than 2.2 million passengers.

It operates a fleet of 23 aircraft of seven types: Boeing 787s, Boeing 767s and Boeing 757s, along with Airbus 340s, Airbus 320s, Airbus 319s and Embraer 190s.
