Aurora orders five MC-21 and two SJ-100 aircraft
…with delivery of both aircraft types by 2035
The Russian Far East-based Aurora airline and Yakovlev (part of the United Aircraft Corporation) signed a letter of intent for five MC-21 medium-haul aircraft and two SJ-100 regional jets (a Russified version of the Superjet 100) with a delivery before 2035.
“Dynamic growth” of the airline and the need to “plan the utilization” of the aircraft manufacturer’s production facilities led to the agreement, which was signed at the Eastern Economic Forum VEF.
The agreement sets out the main terms of the deal, which will be subsequently specified in the aircraft delivery and leasing contracts, the companies said.
Aurora and Yakovlev (formerly Irkut) have already signed a contract for the delivery of eight Superjet 100 aircraft (back in 2021) and a letter of intent for the delivery of 10 MC-21 aircraft (in 2023), with delivery until 2030.
“Despite the complexity and comprehensiveness of the task of launching serial production of our aircraft in import-substituted form, we continue to work on building up our order portfolio, which already now goes beyond 2030. Building such long-term cooperation with our customers will allow us to plan the utilization as well as the development of facilities, infrastructure and human resources for both the MC-21 and SJ-100 projects,” said Andrey Boginsky, UAC Deputy General Director for Civil Aviation and CEO of Yakovlev.
“We take into account the good dynamics of passenger traffic and shape our plans and strategy for the future taking into account the supply of domestically-built aircraft. MC-21 and SJ-100 are what we need, taking into account passenger traffic growth of up to 10-15% per year. <…> Aurora operates in all segments of air transport in the Far Eastern Federal District (mainline, regional and local),” emphasized Konstantin Sukhorebrik, CEO of Aurora.
