All-Russian-made Superjet-100 makes maiden flight
Its producer UAC confirmed no imported components have been left on the aircraft

The first Superjet 100 (SJ-100) in its “all-Russian-made” version completed its first test flight on April 23.
The program of this SJ-100 version, in which all imported parts are phased out and replaced with Russian-made components, was launched in 2019 as an attempt to achieve sovereignty from mostly US-made parts. The aim was initially to introduce the aircraft to the export markets, where US-imposed sanctions were in effect, such as Iran. Development of the Russian PD-8 turbofan engine began simultaneously.
After Western suppliers had left Russia in 2022, the aircraft’s producer United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) expanded its search for replacement – now including all foreign-made components. “About 40 imported systems and units have been replaced on this airliner”, Vladimir Artyakov, general director of UAC’s parent Rostec said.
Besides the new engines, the SJ 100 is equipped with Russian-made avionics, landing gear, APU, control system, electrical, air conditioning, fire protection and other systems. The fuselage has also been changed to facilitate production and maintenance procedures.
“Not even one imported system has been left on the aircraft,” head of UAC Vadim Badekha stated.
The all-Russian prototype (MSN 97003) is the third aircraft joining the flight test program. The partially-replaced MSN 97001 flew for the first time in 2023 with the original SaM146 engines, as development of PD-8 ran into delays, pushing certification schedule off by two years.
Russia’s vice-PM Denis Manturov announced that the fully Russian SJ-100 aircraft will make around 130 certification flights. According to the state roadmap for the development of Russian aviation industry, the first SJ-100 would be delivered to customers in February 2026. Next year UAC plans to hand 30 aircraft to operators, and the total of 142 aircraft through 2030.
As of today, the only firm order for the new model is for 34 aircraft from Aeroflot Group.
