Aeroflot to launch flights to London Gatwick from Moscow

Following an agreement between aviation authorities of Russia and the Great Britain, Aeroflot increased its frequency to London from 21 to 32 weekly flights

Russia’s national carrier Aeroflot on November 15 will add a new destination to its route network – from its base Sheremetyevo airport, in Moscow, to London Gatwick Airport, according to the airline reservation system. At the same time the company will increase flight frequency from Sheremetyevo to Heathrow, its main London airport.

The Russian airline will perform one turnaround flight to Gatwick daily. In total, flight frequency from Moscow to London will be increased from the current 21 to 32 flights per week, seven of which to Gatwick, and the remaining 25 to Heathrow.

According to Travel.ru travel resource, increase in the total number of flights to London became possible after an agreement reached this summer between Russian and British aviation authorities. The agreement makes provision for increases in flight frequency of the first designated carriers on the Moscow-London line from 21 to 35 per week. Gatwick was introduced to Aeroflot’s route network since Heathrow could not provide the required number of slots.

Previously, the flights from Gatwick to Moscow were performed by the British low-cost airlines EasyJet from Domodedovo, which closed this route due to weak demand in spring of this year. Currently, no other Russian airlines fly to Gatwick.
