Aeroflot sets record-breaking flight frequencies for key domestic routes

Russia’s flag carrier to launch air shuttle between Moscow and Saint Petersburg

Aeroflot Shuttle

In the summer season Aeroflot has scheduled a record number of flights on several domestic routes, including Russia’s first air shuttle between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, with a flight every 15-30 minutes. The increased frequencies intended to foster domestic leisure traffic growth and stimulate business air travel.

This summer Aeroflot Group is bound to set a record on the number of flights from Moscow to Sochi, Russia’s most popular Black Sea resort. The Group’s airlines are expected to operate up to 24 daily flights to this destination, amounting to 167 flights per week – up 23% on last year’s offering.

The service, offered under SU code and operated by Aeroflot and Rossiya Airlines, (low-cost Pobeda’s flights not factored in) increased by 25% in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period of 2023. In the first three months the route yielded over 358,000 passengers.

Direct flights to Russia’s “resort capital” are offered not only from Moscow, but also from Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Samara, Tyumen, Ufa and Chelyabinsk – amounting collectively to 318 weekly flights to Sochi from 13 airports around Russia.

For the summer months Aeroflot has scheduled a record number of flights between Moscow and Kazan. From June through August the airline will operate up to 12 daily flights to the capital of Tatarstan, totaling 84 flights per week up 24% on the same time last year.

The increase in frequencies is expected to facilitate further growth of tourist traffic to the region and will provide connections for Tatarstan-originated passengers across Aeroflot’s entire route network from its Moscow Sheremetyevo hub.

In 2023 over 729,000 passengers have traveled between Moscow and Kazan, up 25% on the same period last year, setting the all-time record. More than 5,000 flights have been operated, up 14% year-on-year.

Moscow – Saint Petersburg. Aeroflot Shuttle

Starting June 1, after more than six months of thorough preparation, Aeroflot is launching a program, which is unique for the Russian air travel market. The aim of Aeroflot Shuttle is to provide quick and seamless travel between Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Flights between Sheremetyevo and Pulkovo will depart every 15 minutes, between Vnukovo and Pulkovo – every 30 minutes. Collectively, this will amount to over 70 daily flights.

Passengers will benefit from a flexible fare called Shuttle Economy on this route. Baggage-free fares mean that travel plans can be changed at a short notice and fly earlier or later than the initial ticket time.

The terms of the fare also imply that the ticket may be exchanged free of charge for any other SU- flight (operated by Aeroflot or Rossiya Airlines) between Sheremetyevo / Vnukovo and Pulkovo within 12-hour time window prior to and after the initial flight time. The same option is available to passengers using the following fares: Economy Optimum and Maximum, Comfort Optimum and Maximum, and all Business fares.

Passengers can change their departure time at a check-in counter or by contacting Aeroflot call center, not earlier than 12 hours prior to the initial flight itinerary, and no later than 40 minutes after the flight has departed. Passengers may also check in for the flight no later that 30 minutes prior to departure time.

The main benefit of the new service is its potential for flexible planning of travel between the two major cities, including cases when a passenger is late for flight or, on the contrary, has arrived at the airport too early for his flight – and can change the departure time free of charge.
