Aeroflot Group’s passenger numbers up by 12.2 per cent in first seven months of 2019

Thanks to the continuing rapid growth of its budget off-shot Pobeda, the Aeroflot Group, which comprises Aeroflot, Rossiya Airlines, low-cost carrier (LCC) Pobeda and Aurora, carried some 34.6 million passengers in the first seven months of 2019, up 12.2 per cent year-on-year. In the period, Pobeda’s business grew by more than 30 per cent, whereas Aeroflot, the nation’s flagship airline, carried 21.5 million passengers in the seven-month period, an increase of 8.3 per cent.

The group members’ RPKs increased by 12.8 per cent and Aeroflot’s by 7.5 per cent year-on-year, as available seat kilometres (ASKs) rose by 13.9 per cent year-on-year for the group and by 8.8 per cent year-on-year for the airline.

As a result, the passenger load factor decreased by 0.8 pp year-on-year to 81.1 per cent for the group and decreased by 0.9 pp to 78.8 per cent for the title carrier.

In July 2019 alone, Aeroflot Group served some 6.4 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 7.3 per cent. During the month Aeroflot airline transported 3.7 million passengers, a small increase of 1.9 per cent. At the same time, its domestic passenger traffic numbers decreased by 1.4 per cent to 1.76 million.

In the month, group and airline RPKs were up by 7.7 per cent and 2.4 per cent year-on-year, respectively.

Aeroflot group’s passenger load factor was 90.0 per cent, representing a 1.2 percentage point decrease on the same period of a year earlier, whilst the passenger load factor at Aeroflot decreased by 1.7 percentage points year-on-year, to 87.6 per cent.

In July, Aeroflot phased out one Airbus A321 aircraft. As of 31 July 2019, the group’s fleet had 364 aircraft, with Aeroflot airline operated 249, its lowest figure in nine months.
