Aeroflot has recovered from the aftermath of the July 28 massive cyber-attack on its IT systems. The attack, the first of a series that harassed some of Russia’s major businesses, affected Aeroflot’s IT infrastructure, which resulted in temporary flight cancellations and delays. The flight program was quickly stabilized though, with over 80% of flights preformed on time on the same day, including all of its regional services. On the next day after the attack, Aeroflot managed to get the situation under control and resume normal operations.

Transition to Russian-developed IT products was instrumental in quick recovery of both the company’s operational and commercial activities. “Thanks to Aeroflot’s staff efforts and the assistance of [base airport] Sheremetyevo’s services, the problem was eliminated in the shortest possible time,” the Russian Ministry of transport said.

On July 29 Aeroflot operated 100% of its 216 return flights from Moscow, and 73 flights from its regional hubs Krasnoyarsk and Sochi. On July 30 the number of flights from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport reached 241. Access to online check-in and airport check-in, as well as the airline’s web site was fully restored.

Aeroflot Bonus loyalty program took some more time to recover completely. However, all data had been secured, and all its basic services, including premium miles transactions and interaction with partner banks, are fully functional. At the same time Aeroflot immediately deployed manpower to reinforce it cyber-security and counter-fraud measures.

On August 18 Aeroflot sent out a bulletin, informing its Aeroflot Bonus members that they can now access the full range of services, including access to personal account, earning and redeeming miles for flights operated by Aeroflot and partner airlines, earning miles with co-branded cards from partner banks, earning and redeeming miles for products and services from program partners.

As a token of appreciation for members’ patience during this period of temporary inconvenience, the validity of program status levels — as well as any miles set to expire in 2026 — has been extended by one month. This way, members’ will have extra time to enjoy their tier privileges and plan their trips. Premium passengers are also advised they may resume the privileges of fast-track check-in and VIP lounges at the airports.

Additionally, passengers can once again pre-order special meals online. Travelers can choose from 17 types of complimentary special meals, thoughtfully designed to accommodate various national culinary preferences, dietary restrictions, and religious beliefs. For younger travelers, children’s meals and infant food sets are also available.

Over the first seven months of the year, 31.6 million passengers were carried by Aeroflot Group, up 1.2% compared to the same period in 2024.

24.2 million passengers were served domestically, with international traffic being 7.4 million. RPKs increased by 3.2%. The passenger load factor reached 89.5%, up 0.5 p.p. year-on-year.

Aeroflot airline carried 16.9 million passengers during January through July.
