Aeroflot and Technoserv win CNews IT award for data processing centre of the year

Aeroflot has been awarded a prestigious CNews IT Award for Data Processing Centre (DPC) of the Year, for the setup of its modular DPC.

The prize was awarded at the annual CNews Forum 2016: Information Technologies of Tomorrow forum, the key event recognising achievements in Russia’s information and communications technologies market.

Technoserv and HPE were chosen to implement this innovative project. Among their proposed solutions were a modular IT-Crew DPC created by Technoserv, and IT infrastructure designed by HPE to meet the needs of Aeroflot.

Built and launched over a six-month period, the DPC has a total area of 175 sq m and houses 78 servers of 10 kW each, thereby expanding the capacity of Aeroflot’s DPC by 2.5 times.

The new DPC is based on a quick-build modular construction system with built-in engineering systems. It consists of server units for computing equipment, failsafe equipment to ensure smooth uninterrupted operation of all active units, as well as dispatching, warehouse, corridor, staircase and lift blocks.

The modular DPC’s engineering systems of the modular DPC are designed for 24-hour operation. Particular emphasis was placed on technical aesthetics and compactness of equipment. The engineering systems were designed to meet the highest reliability and fault tolerance standards. A technical fault or repair of any single unit of equipment is not detrimental to the operation of the whole system in general.

“IT-infrastructure has to meet the needs of our business and has to be flexible enough to respond to changes in the business environment within and outside our company,” said Deputy CEO for IT, Kirill Bogdanov. “Rapid business development, fleet expansion and passenger traffic increase require new IT solutions and services, which means increased computing capacity of Aeroflot and its subsidiaries. We therefore decided to increase the capacity of our main DPC by establishing a new modular data centre. Today we can say that it was a justified decision.”

“This project represents a continuation of the productive relationship between Aeroflot, HPE and Technoserv,” said Technoserv Director Sergey Korneev. “We had the task of consolidating all of Aeroflot’s IT resources on one platform and providing a highly reliable infrastructure. Furthermore, our client requested a quick-build, compact and aesthetic DPC which would fit the existing Aeroflot office complex.”

As of now, the modular DPC is an important component of Aeroflot’s IT-infrastructure and helps the company maintain its leading position in the digitalisation of the aviation industry.
