Ural Airlines’ passenger traffic increased 12% this August, to 810,446 passengers, continuing the trend of growth among Russia’s top-five airlines this year.

The Ekaterinburg-based airline, Russia’s fifth largest, has served more than 4.271 million passengers since the beginning of the year, an increase of 17% over last year’s figures for the same period.

The number of flights carried out by the airline in August came in at 5,096 flights, with 3,271 domestic flights, 769 to CIS cities, and 1,056 to other international destinations. In the first seven months of the year, the airline operated 31,270 flights, an increase of 12% YOY. Included in this number are 19,761 domestic flights, 5,775 to CIS destinations and 5,734 to other international destinations.

Despite the observed steady growth in the airline’s passenger numbers since the beginning of the year, the rate of monthly growth on Ural Airlines for the second month slowed. In particular, in July of this year, 17% more passengers flew with Ural Airlines than July of 2015. This figure was 20% in June.

From January through June, 3.461 million passengers used the services of Ural Airlines, an increase of 17.1% YOY.

Russia’s other top-five airlines – Aeroflot, S7, Rossiya (a part of Aeroflot Group), and UTair – showed growth this year among a general trend of decline (9.2% total) on the Russian market. As a result, the top-five airlines’ share of the market increased this year, from 53.6% last year to 67.8% now.
