The all-turboprop fleet of Qazaq Air grows to five aircraft

Qazaq Air De Havilland Aircraft Canada delivers a first Dash 8-400 turboprop (De Havilland)

Kazakhstan’s state-owned regional airline Qazaq Air has taken delivery of a De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 (previously known as the Bombardier Q400 NextGen), with tail number P4-AIR (manufacturer’s serial number MSN 4598).

The aircraft is the fifth Dash 8-400 turboprop in the airline’s fleet and the first for De Havilland Canada following the June 1, 2019 transference of the Dash 8/Q series aircraft programme from Bombardier to De Havilland Canada.

“We are delighted to be included in this important milestone and to receive De Havilland Canada’s first delivered aircraft,” states Plamen Atanassov, chief executive of Qazaq Air. “We are very pleased with the operational performance and capabilities of our Dash 8-400 aircraft and are proud to support the transition of the Dash 8 aircraft programme from Bombardier to De Havilland Canada,” he enthuses.

“It’s a rewarding day to see the delivery of the first Dash 8-400 turboprop under the De Havilland Canada name and we are delighted to be sharing this day with Qazaq Air,” asserts Todd Young, chief operating officer for De Havilland Canada.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited has obtained all regulatory approvals from Transport Canada and those for the relevant competition authorities to sustain the manufacture and aftermarket support for the Dash 8/Q series aircraft.

Following the strengthening of its fleet, Qazaq Air has launched new destinations, including its first scheduled international route which linked Almaty with Osh in Kyrgyzstan on June 7, while flights from Nur-Sultan (ex Astana) to Astrakhan in Russia will commence on July 10 and domestic services from Nur-Sultan to Atyrau will start on July 7.

Launched in 2015, Qazaq Air is 100 per cent-owned by the Samruk-Kazyna National Welfare Fund. Last year the airline carried some 307,000 passengers, 22 per cent more than 2017.
