In February 2017, Silk Way Technics told Russian Aviation Insider that it was working to obtain an approval for 787 heavy maintenance, including 24-month C-checks. At that point, the provider was authorized to offer line maintenance, landing gear and accumulator services on the type.

The company also offers line and base maintenance on the Boeing 747-400 and 747-8, 757-200, 767-300, Airbus A319/320/321 and А340-500/600, Embraer E170/E190, Gulfstream G200/G280/G450/G550/G650, and ATR 42, as well as associated component services and repairs.

Silk Way Technics also works with Azeri cargo carrier Silk Way West Airlines (another Silk Way company) and AZAL’s subsidiary Buta Airways, as well as with the local bizav operator Silk Way Business Aviation. It hold approvals not only from the local aviation authorities but also from EASA, the FAA, and the authorities of Bermuda, Qatar, and Kuwait, so may provide maintenance on foreign-registered aircraft.

AZAL has plans to expand its Dreamliner fleet. The other CIS operator of the type is Uzbekistan Airways. Several other carriers of the region have placed orders for the 787, including Kazakhstan’s Air Astana and Tajikistan’s Somon Air. Air Astana is currently considering the possibility of adding the type to its own approval and organize in-house maintenance at the recently opened MRO center in Astana.
