Reconstruction of the runway at Tbilisi Airport, located in the Georgian capital city, will be completed in 12 weeks, according to Sputnik agency with reference to the Georgian Ministry of Economy. The airport will not be handling any flights from 10:00 am till 8:00 pm local time (6 am till 4 pm GMT) until the 1st of July. From March 1 through March 26, the air gateway was closed for flights from 09:30 am (5:30 am GMT) till 3:00 pm (11:00 am GMT).

Upgrading of the only runway at the airport is being undertaken under a contract signed between the airport’s operator, – Turkish company TAV Urban Georgia, and the Georgian government. The runway renovation is a part of a larger airport upgrading program, which also includes renovation of taxiways.

TAV Urban Georgia acquired operating control over the airport in 2005, for a period lasting till 2027. During this time, the operating company intends to invest about 30 million dollars in the airport development.

Tbilisi Airport is the largest airport in Georgia. It served 1.8 million passengers in 2015, 271.8 thousand more than in 2014 (17.3% increase). Russian airlines offering flights to the Georgian airport are Aeroflot Airlines and S7 Airlines (Siberia).
