S7 Group, owner of Sibir and Globus airlines (both carriers operate under S7 Airlines brand name) has placed an order for 17 regional jets with Embraer, Interfax newswire reports citing the group’s co-owner and chairwoman Natalia Fileva. This is the first Russian order for Embraer E-Jets family, a direct competitor of Russia’s Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional jet.

S7 has not disclosed the types of aircraft it ordered. However, earlier the company reported it was negotiating with Embraer the terms of acquiring up to 20 aircraft, models E170 and E175. It is also not clear whether the signed document is a firm contract or a letter of intent.

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency validated type certificates for both models earlier this month

The parent S7 Airlines has no regional jets in its fleet. It currently operates 20 Airbus A319, 19 A320, six A321 and two. Globus has 19 Boeing 737-800s.
